SportsBytes Winter 2009 - News from ActiveSports

SportsBytes: eNewsletter for Sports Administrators - January

As we kick off the New Year, I’d like to take a moment to comment on recent events hitting close to home. Many small companies across the country have struggled and failed over the last 6 months. This has been the case within the sports registration industry as well with at least one competitor of Active publicly disclosing their serious financial troubles. We understand this causes sports organizations to question whether they are working with the right partner.

Rest assured that your loyalty with The Active Network is not misplaced. ActiveSports, part of The Active Network, provides more than 14,000 sports leagues/clubs just like yours with secure, web-based technologies and reliable customer service. We work with more than 60,000 organizations overall. Active is far-and-away the largest provider of online registration and payment processing services and has been for over 10 years. With more than 2,200 employees worldwide, you can feel confident that Active is a strong, stable company with a proven track record of maintaining great technology with the highest level of security and financial integrity. At Active, we:

-->

securely processed more than $1 billion in payments in 2008
--> Never co-mingle our client's funds with the company's operating funds, verified through independent audits conducted by Ernst & Young, one of the top internationally recognized CPA firms
--> Operate on Oracle's industry-leading financial software – you can feel confident that we are tracking your funds through industry-recognized, high-end enterprise software
--> Have more than 35 National Governing Bodies that have selected Active to be their technology partner, including Little League Baseball, Pop Warner, and many state soccer associations

We truly appreciate your business and your confidence in Active as your technology partner of choice. Look forward to great improvements and advancements in 2009!

Regards,

"Hills Youth Lacrosse is a rapidly growing league and has grown by double digits every year. The administrative burden of handling paper to collect information from manual registration forms, US Lacrosse registration forms and uniform purchase forms has been wiped away. Now we are able to move data electronically and save our volunteers the most important thing we can save them: TIME! The benefit of using [Active] to handle our registration is that it allows our coaches to use their time to focus on the kids and not the administrative details. We are so happy that we found Active!"

Scott Yeske, Industry Manager - Lacrosse/Hockey

Scott Yeske

At work: I'm responsible for maintaining relationships with both our hockey and lacrosse clients. Through this partnership, I help program administrators save time, reduce costs, simplify their administrative workload and increase efficiency for their organization. Over the past 4 years at Active, I’ve taken great pride knowing that I have helped associations and leagues in growing the sports I myself am so passionate about.

One of the other cool parts of my job is traveling to meet face-to-face with my clients and prospects. Next week I'm heading to the US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore, MD. It’s a huge event with nearly 5,000 lacrosse coaches, officials and enthusiasts. I’ve never been to Baltimore but am looking forward to networking and taking in all that they city has to offer.

Outside of work: As a Canadian native, I'm an avid ice hockey fan and of course player (it’s in the genes!). I started playing when I was 10 years old and haven’t stopped playing since. I played in high school; played in college for the Long Beach State 49ers before and went on to play professionally for the Long Beach Ice Dogs-- a childhood dream.

I currently reside in Long Beach, CA where I work remotely from home. In addition to playing in a men’s hockey league, I enjoy what southern California has to offer including surfing, playing golf and beach volleyball. I also enjoy traveling and spending time with my friends.

Favourite Sports Moment: Without a doubt, my first professional hockey game. Like many young Canadian boys, I always wanted to grow up and be a professional hockey player. In 2004, I was playing in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for the Long Beach Ice Dogs. We were playing an Olympic team that was touring the US and playing many of the ECHL teams. I was just coming off a knee injury and I remember how very excited and nervous I felt when the coach told me I was suiting up and hitting the ice. I almost scored on my first shift of the game and the Head coach played me for the entire game. You never forget when your childhood dreams come true.
