League: Local USA Hockey adult league
Location:Fairbanks, AK
Website URL: http://www.fairbanksmenshockey.com
Active Client Since: 2009
The Fairbanks Men's Hockey Association (FMHA) is a non-profit dedicated to promoting the growth of adult competitive and recreational hockey in the Interior of Alaska. The goal of FMHA is to provide the best possible experience for all participants by encouraging, developing, advancing and administering the sport of hockey. Players range in age from 18 to mid-60's and the skill levels vary from Tripod to ex-Division I. While defined as a “men's” league, in actuality FMHA is co-ed with nearly 30% of players being women. Last winter the season extended for 34 games and included a double elimination tournament.
FMHA originally used a paper-based registration process that ended up costing them lost registrations and payments, in addition to lost time that could have been better spent on the ice. It quickly became apparent that incorporating an online registration and electronic payment system was going to drastically improve operations. After doing some research, FMHA selected Active Network to provide the technology solutions for league registration and payment processing. The cornerstone of Active's technology features an integration with USA Hockey's membership database which automatically verifies USA Hockey membership status and creates an export file for the league's Cyber Sport registration software – all online!
At the beginning of the Fall 2009-2010 season, FMHA debuted Active's system to their players. Within a few weeks, online registration was so successful a decision was made to eliminate paper registrations completely. Staff saw noticeable decreases in the workload as data was now being automatically collected, processed and tracked. No missing paperwork, no data entry and best of all, automatic verification of player membership via the integration with USA Hockey. Staff members were assigned different levels of administrative access, allowing FMHA to control who was able to simply look in the system and who was granted high-level editing rights. As LeagueRegister was implemented and launched, the ActiveSports Tech Support team was on call to answer any questions and troubleshoot any issues. Plus, FMHA had access to detailed online product tutorials, further helping to smooth the transition.
"The time spent to get up and running has been more than offset by the time saved this season alone," notes Keith Berrian, League Secretary for FMHA. "As to recommending LeagueRegister, I would say yes, it has met our needs perfectly so far."

Todd Alloway and Kathleen Gendron, Account Managers
|
 |
|
Todd Alloway and Kathleen Gendron have been part of the Active team for close to 3 years each, but have recently moved onto the growing ActiveSports team as Account Managers. Their new positions will involve supporting as well as educating existing clients on the full suite of Active products. They have comprehensive knowledge of how each piece of our technology can complement an organization and help it grow. Both Todd and Kathleen mention that building strong relationships with their clients is a primary motivator and they are excited to begin their new positions. As they begin to reach out to clients, you might hear from them soon!
Todd spends most of his spare time with his wife and kids. He has a seven-year-old son named Caden and a 4-year-old daughter named Kendal. Todd plays basketball once a week, but has hung up his football and softball cleats in order to spend more time coaching his son's football team and taking his daughter to dance class.
Kathleen is based out of the Boston area and enjoys exploring dog parks with her fur ball Murphy and renovating her 1920's house with her husband, Luke. She plays in recreational soccer, lacrosse and ultimate Frisbee leagues and has coached youth soccer for several years. Kathleen is a Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox fan and is looking forward to baseball season starting in April. Go Red Sox!
