SportsBytes: eNewsletter for Sports Administrators
Welcome to the October issue of SportsBytes, our online client newsletter for sport administrators, league organizers, board members and staff volunteers.
In August, ActiveSports began hosting monthly webinars showcasing new product features and offering insight, guidance and tips for organizers, administrators and volunteers to stay "in step" with limited resources. We appreciate your participation and especially your feedback on the topics you would like to see in the future.
In October and November, we will showcase the latest enhancements to ClubReg, our integrated online registration and league management solution. Each session is designed to address the unique league/club management needs faced by soccer, baseball and football administrators. We hope you can join us to learn first-hand how ClubReg can help you better manage your upcoming season.
We welcome your ideas for future webinar topics and invite you to view past webinar recordings.

Marketing & Promotion Tips |

Is your Web site URL or domain name easy to remember?
|
|
|
 |
|
Most directories, including Google, give key words found within a Web site URL or domain address a higher weighted value in returning search results. Your domain name is simply your web address (www.yourname.com or www.yourname.org, www.eteamz.yourname.com) and is one of the most important ways that potential players and participants will locate your Web site.
Why should you care?
Over 17,000 Web site domains are being added to the Internet DAILY.
Acronyms, common words, including city or regional names, sports, and nouns like team, league, club or camp, etc. mean your Web site faces immense competition for the individuals seeking sports programs like yours.
What’s the big deal?
The # 1 activity on the Internet today is people gathering purchase information (US Dept of Commerce).
Word of mouth is great; but can you rely solely on referrals to support and build your sports programs?
Not convinced?
There are approximately 100+ million online users in North America; and nearly 60% use the Internet to make online purchases (USCI).
If you’re not leveraging your Web site as a cornerstone of your marketing and promotion efforts, you may be missing out. Worse of all, participants may be missing out on your programs.

"The USTA’s Tennis On Campus program has experienced phenomenal growth over the last five years. Now, with tennisoncampus.com, we will be able to engage and connect more easily with our Tennis On Campus leaders and participants. The Web site will provide the latest program information, but more importantly, it will enhance the overall Tennis On Campus experience."

"Our goal was to get 10% of our parent-base to switch to registering their players online with ClubReg this year. We thought we would have to drag them kicking and screaming, but as word spread how easy it was to use, we were amazed to find that fewer and fewer people came to our walk-in sessions! We ended up with about a third of our league successfully using your program, in our first year! Not only did this cut down on volunteer time we needed to process registrations, but with parents typing in their own data, our database became much more accurate."

Greg Lopez, Industry/Account Manager - Baseball & Soccer

|
As an Account Manager, I work with youth and adult baseball and soccer league/club/tournament directors throughout California and Texas. I ensure my clients’ online registration is setup proficiently while providing them guidance on how to effectively market their sports programs and events. I consult with customers on technology upgrades and tailored marketing solutions. As the Baseball Industry lead, I spearhead the company’s efforts to build awareness and create a vision for our technology and marketing solutions. What I enjoy most is working with my clients on a personal level to help them eliminate time-intensive processes so they can focus their time on making their programs fun and rewarding. The fast-paced environment at Active has kept me energized and focused on new challenges for over 9 years and counting.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, working out, jogging, gardening, playing guitar, photography and staying current on professional sports. My son is involved in baseball, basketball and flag football; my daughter is into dance and tap --no team sports for her--so we stay pretty busy as a family. As a San Diego native, I've been involved with sports from a very young age, competed in track and cross country in college (Go Lumberjacks!), and am a loyal Padres fan. One of my most memorable sports experiences was running the Boston Marathon in 1995. Most recently I attended the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, PA and was completely energized by the positive, family-oriented atmosphere. It's an amazing event that I encourage any sports fan to attend.
